The Parkade

It’s that time of year when we experience many days of rain. Sometimes it falls as drizzle or a shower and at other times it’s a downpour. I went shopping for groceries early this morning and took this picture in the empty parkade. I like the composition and how you can see all the cement pillars. The tire tracks at the bottom of the image conveys a human presence. Who was driving the car? What were they doing here? Where are they now? Click on the image to see a larger version.

Along the Fraser River

It was a beautiful cold clear day and the weather forecast called for early morning fog in low lying areas. I set up my camera and waited for the fog to slowly clear. I like this image of the trees in the foreground and the sun hitting the bridge at sunrise. Click on the image to see a larger version.

Carpe Diem

A tripod and the self timer function on my camera allowed me to take this image. A wonderful view of the Fraser River and clear blue sky complete the photo. Click on the image to see a larger version.

The Blue Hour

Lots of traffic heading in and out of the downtown on a Saturday evening. In this long exposure you can see all three colours of the traffic light. A car coming towards me used the left hand turning lane at just the right moment. It’s a busy image, but I like the perspective which allows you to see the headlights and taillights on the bridge. Pine Cone and Needles

The sun sets so far south this time of year. It creates beautiful warm light and long shadows at the end of the day. Click on the image to see a larger version.

Dodge Pickup

This rusted Dodge pickup truck and the perspective of my photo reminds me of the 1971 movie Duel by Steven Spielberg. David Mann ( Dennis Weaver ), a mild mannered electronics salesman, is driving cross-country on a two-lane highway when he encounters an old oil tanker driven by an unseen driver who seems to enjoy annoying him with dangerous antics on the road. He is unable to escape the demonic big rig. After watching the movie, whenever you see an old rusted truck, you’ll see it in a different light. Click on the image to see a larger version.

Red or Blue?

It was raining today and I spent some time taking images of a metallic red McLaren and a beautiful metallic blue Lamborghini. I like the way the raindrops beaded on the paint of these expensive sports cars. Click on an image to see a larger version.

Stawamus Chief Provincial Park

The Stawamus Chief is located next to Howe Sound and it’s the second largest granite monolith in the world. Last weekend I spent an evening and a morning on the summit of the third peak. At sunrise, the light was amazing as the fog burned off. The third peak is 702 metres high and it was a tough grind climbing it with my photography equipment, however, the images I got made the effort worthwhile. Surfacing

Two resident killer whales or orcas on the move. These are the most commonly sighted of the three populations ( residents, transients and offshores ) in the coastal waters of British Columbia. They are the largest member of the dolphin family. Residents’ diets consist primarily of salmon, and have extremely tight family units called ‘matrilines’ and each matriline has its own distinct calls. You can see the saddle patch behind the dorsal fin which helps in killer whale identification. This was the pioneer work of the late Dr. Michael Bigg. Seeing orcas in the wild is a humbling experience. Click on the image to see a larger version.

Placed Upon The Horizon

I’ve been having fun taking images of the Facade 2015 event at the Vancouver Art Gallery. This projection mapping project transforms outdoor architecture. I tried to get a few different perspectives and in the process saw some rats scurrying away. My Nikon camera takes such beautiful images at night, with amazing detail and vivid colours.
