Ring-necked Duck ( Breeding Male )

Ring-necked Ducks ( Aythya collaris ) are fast fliers who undertake longer migrations than other diving ducks. This species might better be called the 'Ring-billed Duck' because its chestnut neck ring is usually seen only at close range, while the white ring on the bill can be a prominent field mark. The females make a purring or rough growl ( kerp kerp ), while the males are usually silent. However, during displays they give a low-pitched hissing whistle like a person blowing through a tube.
